How my fitness goals have evolved since COVID

I have a confession to share.

Up until a couple years ago, my goals with fitness could be summed up as “work out as hard as possible, as efficiently as possible, and as often as possible, to burn the max amount of calories, and work off the wine and fries I consumed last Friday”.

Sound familiar?

The truth is, when I first opened CrushCamp, our only classes offered were high intensity interval training - because I wanted max burn in minimal time.

And don’t get me wrong - I still love a super-sweaty, hype-AF Crush class!

But, for me personally, something has shifted.

When Covid hit, and we lost access to gyms and group classes, I really realized how much more fitness meant to me, than just burning calories. As I navigated personal and mental health challenges, I started to crave gentle movement - a walk outside, a chill yoga session, stretching in front of the tv. And I realized that even 30 minutes per day of gentle movement had a massive impact on my outlook, my energy, my focus, my stress, and my sleep.

I also realized that when I’m happier, less stressed, and sleeping better, I tend to eat better, drink more water, and be more willing to spend time and energy on prepping meals that fuel my body and life. It’s what I like to call “the virtuous cycle” - make a positive change in one area of your health - whether through sleep, exercise, nutrition, or mental health, and the others see a benefit too.

Now that studios are open again, and the fog is finally starting to lift, I realize how much better I am at listening to my body.

On the days when I have high energy and want to sweat, CRUSH workouts make my heart beat and fill my lungs.

When I want to feel strong and badass (and feel it the next day!) LIFT and LIIT let me focus on my form and allow me to go heavier with my weights.

When my energy is lower, my mind is frustrated, or my back is sore, FLOW gets me feeling right.

And when I need to escape it all, it’s headphones and a dog walk in the park.

I am SO proud of how CrushCamp has evolved over the past 4 years, and grateful to you all for sharing your feedback that has allowed us to grow.

And now I encourage you to take a moment to be proud of yourself. Because you don’t get through massive struggles without growing and learning in some way. As my team knows, I like to say that growth is the antidote to complacency. It isn’t always fun or pretty, but you can always find meaning and take pride in what you have overcome.
